Alpaslan Korkmaz

President, Investment Support and Promotion Agency of Turkey (ISPAT) 

Alpaslan Korkmaz is the pioneering President of the Investment Support and Promotion Agency of Turkey since October 2006. The agency attached to the Prime Ministry is the sole responsible body for foreign direct investment (FDI) and business development. The president, which reports directly to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Turkey, helps companies establish direct investments, find partners and conduct business endeavor smoothly. The agency is a "one-stop shopping" organization where investors and business people receive extensive assistance in investing in Turkey. 

During his tenure, Mr. Korkmaz has been one of the main figures behind the remarkable success of FDI inflow to Turkey, which increased to 18 billion dollars in 2008 from average 1.1 billion between the years 1993-2002. He has been heading worldwide business seminars and presenting at numerous international conferences such as World Economic Forum (Davos), OECD, IMF and World Bank meetings. Mr. Korkmaz is also highly involved in bilateral economic relations between Turkey and other countries. Moreover, Mr. Korkmaz plays a significant role in Turkey’s economic strategy development as well as trade and investment promotion policies. 

Prior to his appointment at ISPAT, he worked as the Director of the Investment Promotion Agency of the State Neuchatel-Switzerland, where he managed a local and international team in order to attract FDI. Meanwhile, he acted as the Deputy Director of the Western Switzerland Economic Development Agency. Mr. Korkmaz, who started his career as a Finance Manager, became afterwards General Manager of a consultancy company involved mainly in the internationalization and globalization processes of enterprises. 

Mr. Korkmaz holds a PhD in management from Neuchâtel University, Switzerland. He is currently a lecturer at the same university in international management, teaching "International & cross-cultural negotiation & dispute resolution". He has many publications in international business. He speaks 5 languages.
